A Child Can Do It...But I Can't!

I had planned on making some cake balls today to celebrate FINALLY having some nice weather.  Last night I baked the delicious looking lemon cake, mixed it all up with the creamy lemon frosting, and stashed it in the fridge overnight.  All I needed to do for today was to roll the mixture into balls, melt the chocolate, and dip.  Easy peasy.  Unless you're on a bad luck streak like I seem to be these days.

Is melting chocolate really so difficult?  I know I've done it before...but it seems to be beyond my skills today.  For my first attempt, I put the white chocolate chips in a double boiler with a little shortening.  Twelve thousand years later, it had turned into a whipped substance resembling frosting.  Then it suddenly started to burn.  Into the garbage it went!  Try number two involved the microwave.  Let's just say that there were burnt spots and it was way too runny, even after sitting and cooling.

I've accepted that this batch of goodies was just not meant to be.  Hopefully, my disaster spell will end soon...
